When it comes to social media marketing there’s definitely a different etiquette than other small business marketing efforts. Social media marketing requires a more subtle and more colloquial approach than regular marketing. If you’re wondering how to make the switch from traditional marketing to social media marketing, here are a few tips to get you started:

Do:

-Make jokes: Social media is meant to entertain, so humor is always appreciated! Whether it’s a comic, a funny image, or a joke, making your clients laugh will win their loyalty!

-Respond to people’s comments: Creating a personal connection with your clients is one of the main benefits of social media marketing! When people comment on your posts, respond!

-Post relevant content: Post about holidays, current events, and pop culture! Show your clients that you know what they’re thinking about daily! By making connections to what’s going on in the world as it relates to your company, you will prove your worth to your clients.

Don’t:

-Only talk about your business: Contrary to what you might focus on in regular advertising, social media marketing needs to be less self-centered! Ideally you should only post something about your own company every 3-5 posts! Don’t overdo it!

-Get too general: It’s easy to create vague, mediocre material for social media, but you’ll end up wasting your time. Nobody will follow your content if it’s not specific and engaging!

-Expect interest if you’re not showing interest: The more you put into social media, the more you’ll get out of it. That’s how it works.

Now you have no excuse to not jump on the social media marketing bandwagon! Good luck!
